An art project which has created a giant knitted walk-through aquarium is the most fascinating movement in the knitted art at the moment. With a mixture of knitting, embroidery and sewing, the giant knitted aquarium was put together for Creative Stitches And Hobby crafts. The project, entitled Above And Below The Waves can be seen at Bluewater, and was created to raise money for charity and has so far bought in £13,000. for the RNLI.

It features a 9 x 6 m, 3D walk-through tunnel with everything from jellyfish, sharks, seaweed to sandcastles. There are donkey rides and even a Punch and Judy show. It was created by hundreds of individual contributions and organised by Alison Murray, who previously masterminded a knitted gingerbread house in 2007 and a giant Christmas tree in 2005.

She said, 'it really is like being in an aquarium. It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. So many people love our previous projects, but the response we have had has been fantastic. People really love walking through the tunnel and being surrounded by knitted creatures and seaweed.'
