Amesbury Wool Shops
Amesbury is a town and civil parish in Wiltshire and is most famous for the prehistoric monument Stonehenge. Amesbury has 1 wool shop and with the neighbouring towns and villages of Newbury, Chippenham, Andover, Warminster and Swindon there could be several more. It is 8 miles north of Salisbury and sits in the River Avon Valley. It used to be considered an important river crossing area on the road from London to Warminster and Exeter.
In recent decades the discovery of the richest Bronze Age burial site found in Britain was made at Amesbury. A furnished grave has become known as the 'Amesbury Archer', and is quite famous now. The town is linked to Arthurian legend, believing that Guinevere retired to the original convent at Amesbury after leaving Arthur. The village has been used in a Beatles video and a BBC Miss Marple mystery!
