The cleaner at Paignton zoo has plans to knit figures for each of her co-workers. Sue Ball has made each gardener a figure in knitting wool of themselves, each about 10 inches tall and stuffed with kapok. She has done five so far, of the zoo's Gardens team.

Each character is closely observed and has the Paignton zoo uniform badge. They also show the individuals with the million items all the tools of their trade, such as a chainsaw and cream cakes. One of the gardeners wears shorts all year round. Regardless of the temperature and Sue has done him justice.

She said, 'This is the first time I've made figures. I saw a pattern for a knitted Father Christmas and I thought it looks like one of my calling and so I was inspired!'

Sue has been knitting for 30 years that has previously only made jumpers and scarves for her children when they were small.

'It's really quite easy. It's a simple pattern that I've adapted' The Paignton zoo Gardens team are delighted with her efforts so far.
