Back in 1990, the knitwear manufacturer and retailer, The Sweater Shop, made its owner, Brian Dde Zille, the millionaire. He built up the Leicestershire-based knitwear manufacturer to mammoth proportions, before selling it in 1995.
But now he's back, and The Sweater Shop has been reborn in the shape of the new venture called 019 Sweater Shop. The 019, is said to be a reference to a racing number used by his family, which has motor racing interests.
According to a report in the Leicester Mercury paper, 019 sweater shop has plans to open a retail outlet at Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield, as well as the new retail outlets in Peterborough, an online store and a mail-order business.
'This is a rebirth of manufacturing for us,' he said.' We are now looking at opening a flagship store in Sheffield, which was The Sweater Shop's primary location 25 years ago for testing the market when there were 68 shops around the UK.'
'Our products are aimed at everybody, because although the market has changed, we still believe business is out there. We wanted to manufacture in Leicestershire, because the history of the business is there.'
The company employs 10 people and is said to have the capacity to produce around 1750 pieces of knitwear per week.
