Why Do You Knit?
.jpg)
So what is it about knitting? According to the dictionary it's 'the act of forming a fabric by looping a continuous yarn' - ok these are the facts of the matter, it's true, but we all know it's just the most fun, therapeutic, soothing thing a person can do to relax and unwind don't we?
To be a knitter is to turn your brain off - not something you can do while reading or watching television that's for sure. It's that time of night when you've got the tea things washed, you've sat down with a cuppa next to your partner or the kids (and not forgetting the cat!). The stresses and strains of daily life are still whirring around your brain and you pick up those needles and ........sigh.
It's just so addictive isn't it? It's so lovely and scrummy and perfect and it's your little world you can just sink into and forget about everything else for a little while or instantly snap to attention if one of the family wants you!
To click away is to cast yourself onto a desert island, to fly around the world or be sunbathing on a hot sunny beach. It's being curled up on the sofa with George Clooney or Cyndi Crawford - depending on your choice of fantasy. Maybe it helps you sort through your troubles or plan the next day's itinerary? But all the while you're clicking away and the wool slips your fingers like gossamer. The methodical and repetitive stitches are creating something just for you - or someone else. It's not really the end product that's the goal - it's the creating, the row after row of just making something happen.
It's just a gentle exercise that allows you to relax - and in the modern day's stressful times - it's perfectly allowed and you shouldn't feel guilty having a bit of 'you' time.
So why do you knit? Drop us a line and let us know - we'll put it on the site and others can share their stories with you.
