Classes and Workshops September - October 2010
Prices include all materials needed unless otherwise stated. Classes are held within the shop itself. Maximum of eight students per class. 50% non refundable deposit required at time of registration. Full payment is required at least seven days in advance of the course date. Refunds will only be made if a cancellation is made at least 48 hours before the course begins. We will operate a waiting list for those courses that are over subscribed. Courses may be subject to cancellation if there is not a sufficient number of participants, but will be fully refunded. All class members are entitled to a 10% discount on any materials bought on the day, or on any item required for the class.

Charity Knit-in : Thursday 9th Sept 2010 10:30am-3:30pm Come and knit jumpers, socks or mittens for children who attend the Marsden-Highworth School in Tallinding. Bring and share some of your stash acrylic yarns and use them to make valuable winter warming clothing for children in The Gambia. Should you like to start ahead of time, Anna’s simple jumper pattern can be found on our website, along with a pattern for children’s socks and mittens under events. Otherwise come along and start a project on the day, when it’s completed you can bring it back to the shop and we will ensure it is delivered to the children.

Felting Class: Saturday 18th Sept 2010 10:30am-3:30pm An introduction to using art paper for felting led by Katy Sparrow. During the workshop, you will have the chance to make a Christmas stocking. Kate will bring lots of examples to explain how this technique works and to inspire you to try future projects. £40

Evening UFP session : Wednesday 22nd September 2010 7:30-9pm If you’re anything like us somewhere in your home there are a couple of UFP’s (Unfinished Projects) that need a bit of a kick start. This is an evening in which you can bring along one of these projects with the aim of rekindling your enthusiasm for it whilst sharing a glass of wine with friends.

Midweek Beginners Crochet : Thursday 23rd Sept. 1:30-4:00pm For anyone who wants to learn to crochet for the first time, or has not done so for many years and needs a revision of the very basics. You will have the opportunity to learn all you need to get started, the basics such as Foundation chains, Double and Treble crochet with tips on how to hold the hook and yarn. Yarn, a hook, and refreshments will be provided. The class is led by Christine. £25

Beginners Knitting : Saturday 25th Sept. 2010 10:30-1:30pm For anyone who wants to knit for the first time, or has not knitted for many years and needs a revision of the very basics. You will have the opportunity to learn all you need to get started, how to cast on, basic knit and purl stitches and then how to cast off. Yarn, needles, and refreshments are provided. The class will be led by Ginette. £25

Midweek Sock Knitting (2 Sessions): Wednesdays 6th & 13th Oct 1:30-4pm For anyone who wants to knit socks for the first time, or has not knitted them for many years. You will have the opportunity to learn all you need to get started, how to cast on and work on four needles, knit through, turn the heel and ‘Kitchener stitch’ the toe. Yarn, needles, and refreshments are provided. £40
 
Moving on Crochet Course : Thursday 7th Oct 10:30am-1pm For those who have the basics and now need to learn how to read a pattern. You will have the opportunity to make a simple project, putting your newly learnt skills into practise. Yarn, a hook, refreshments and a light lunch will be provided. The class is led by Christine.£25

Moving on Knitting Course: Saturday 9th Oct 10:30 am-1:00pm For those who have the basics, and now need to learn how to read a pattern. You will have the opportunity to knit a simple wrist warmer, putting your newly learnt skills into practise. Yarn needles, refreshments and a light lunch will be provided. The class is lead by Ginette £25

Lace Shawl Making : Saturday 16th Oct 10:30- 3:00pm Margaret Knight will help you to learn stitches and techniques that help with lace shawl construction. Yarn, needles, and a light lunch will be provided. £40

Get ready for Christmas : Wednesday 20th Oct 7.30-9pm ... Bring some stash in Christmassy colours, along with a selection of needles and hooks. Join us for a glass of wine and an evening of knitting, we will provide patterns and inspiration for Christmas decorations and gift ideas. Intarsia : Saturday 23rd Oct. 2010 10:30-3:30pm Introduction to intarsia technique. Fiona will bring lots of examples on show to explain and inspire. Reading charts will be explained, and how to finish off your intarsia fabrics. Great for stash busting - we would recommend bringing along 3 or more colours (more the merrier) of a similar weight to have a practical session with. Fiona is happy to help if anyone is interested in or having problems with a particular intarsia project and would like some advice. £40

Sock Design (2 Sessions) : Wednesday 3rd and 10th Nov 2010 1.30-4pm For anyone who wants to have fun and personalise their socks. Session one deals with different tops and toes. Session two will look at reinforcement stitches and ways of forming the heel. Please bring your own 2.5mm DPNS. Yarn, handouts, and refreshments are provided. £40

Spinning Class: Saturday 6th Nov 2010 10:30am-3:30pm If you have ever fancied a go at this age old craft, Sharron Bowman will lead you through the skills involved in using a spindle to create your own yarn from fleece Sharron has sheared from her own flock. All equipment, wool, handouts, and refreshments are provided. £40
